Noteworthy Characteristics
Gold Mound Duranta lives up to its name producing spectacular golden foliage on low, dense, mounding shrubs. It also produces inconspicuous, small lavender flowers that the butterflies love, but it's the foliage that steals the show on this colorful plant. It is not a dwarf shrub however responds well to pruning so can be kept at a smaller size to 2.5 to 3' in height. This plant will tolerate light frosts fairly well though may suffer some minor damage to the newest leaves from a heavier frost.
Uses
Where hardy outdoors, Gold Mound Duranta is useful as a colorful accent or filler in beds or borders, as a low to mid-size hedge, or in containers. Where not winter hardy, it can be used outdoors as an annual in beds or as a container plant that can be overwintered indoors or in a greenhouse when low temperatures drop below 40 degrees.
