Juniperus Chinensis 'Hetzii Columnaris' is a fast and moderate growing shrub, tree and cone bearing plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 3A through 9B. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases and heat. If you like fragrance, Juniperus Chinensis 'Hetzii Columnaris' has fragrant foliage.
Hetzi Columnar Juniper can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in foundation plantings, as a buffer or screen, in containers or planters, as a background, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, for topiary, as a focal point or in landscape beds or islands and also in rock or xeriscape gardens or theme gardens.
Noteworthy Characteristics
This Hetzi Columnar doesn't exactly form a column, but it's close. It is fast growing and has handsome, rich green foilage that forms an upright conical shape to 15 feet tall when left to grow naturally. It can be sheared to a more naroow form and is iften used in topiary to form "poodle tiers" and "spirals." The foliage provides nice contrast and texture in the landscape.
Uses
Hetzi Columnar Juniper is useful in foundation plantings to frame in the corners of a home or other building, as espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall), or as a privacy screen or hedge in landscape beds and islands. If you've got a creative hand and eye, trim it into a sprial or poodle tier! Also nice for outdoor Christmas tree.
Culture & Care Tips
Plant the Hetzi Comnaris Juniper in locations that provide well-drained soil and full sun. Very low maintenance and no pruning required.
