Sedum Spurium 'Voodoo' is a moderate growing groundcover plant and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 3A through 8B. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. The foliage is burgundy in color. It attracts butterflies and visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought and diseases.
Voodoo Sedum can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, as a groundcover, in landscape beds or islands or in small groupings and also in rock or xeriscape gardens.
‘Voodoo’ is a low-growing, sprawling, mat-forming, dark mahogany-leaved stonecrop or sedum cultivar that is commonly grown as a ground cover. It typically rises only 2-6” tall but spreads to 12-18” wide. Creeping, branching stems root at the nodes. Tiny, star-shaped, rose-red flowers bloom in four-branched inflorescences in late spring to mid summer. Thick, succulent, obovate, dark maroon-red leaves are toothed near the ends. Leaves are attractive throughout the growing season.
Easily grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates some light shade. Likes sandy or gravelly soils. Needs good soil drainage to perform well. Drought tolerant. Avoid overwatering.
Voodoo Sedum is an excellent rock garden or small area ground cover. Also great for border fronts, stone wall pockets, sunny banks or slopes, and containers. Most outstanding when planted in groups or massed as a ground cover.
