Diospyros Kaki 'Matsumoto' is a moderate growing tree and fruit bearing plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 10 feet to 12 feet and an average width of 10 feet to 15 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained. The foliage is dark green in color. It attracts wildlife and visual attention and is resistant to drought, insects, diseases and heat.

Matsumoto Persimmon can be useful in the landscape in landscape beds or islands and also in theme gardens or cottage gardens.

This variety ripens about a month earlier than other Japanese Persimmons. It has the same excellent sweet taste as the Hana Fuyu in a smaller fruit and is the most important commercial variety in the U.S.
