Additional Information About Selaginella kraussiana 'Aurea' - Gold Clubmoss

Selaginella Kraussiana 'Aurea' is a moderate growing groundcover plant and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 1 inch to 1 foot and an average width of 6 inches to 1 foot, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides shade, morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in loam soil that is well drained or moderately drained. The foliage is yellow in color.

Golden Spikemoss can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in mass plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, under a shade tree, as a groundcover, between stepping stones and pavers, as a lawn substitute or in hanging baskets and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, theme gardens, cottage gardens, perennial gardens or shade gardens.

More About Gold Club Moss...

One from our 'Toe Tickler' collection, Gold Clubmoss is a beautiful golden variation of clubmoss. The fern-like golden yellow leaves and stems will reach about 6 inches tall and the texture and color contrast wonderfully with most other plants nearby. Clumps will reach up to 2 feet across. There is some dispute as to which hardiness zones it will live in, but we know it is hardy in USDA Zones 7-9.

In the shady landscape, Gold Clubmoss makes an excellent groundcover under ferns and most evergreens. Its spreading habit also makes it a good soil cover and cascader in container gardens.

Gold Clubmoss are very easy to grow with the right conditions. They need a rich, well-drained soil with partial to full shade. In containers use a premium potting mix or a soil mix consisting of 2 parts peat moss to 1 part loam to 1 part small pine bark. Keep soil moist.
