Liriope Muscari 'Super Blue' is a fast growing perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5B through 9B. It matures to an average height of 1 foot to 2 feet and an average width of 1 foot to 3 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides shade, morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam or clay soil that is well drained. In the summer and fall Super Blue Liriope produces blue and violet flowers. It attracts hummingbirds and visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat.
Super Blue Liriope can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, under a shade tree, as a groundcover, in landscape beds or islands or for erosion control and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, theme gardens, cottage gardens or perennial gardens.
This evergreen perennial of the lily family is one of the most widely used groundcover plants in existence - and for very good reason! Unlike other Liriope varieties that spread wildly, Super Blue forms neat clumps of grassy foliage that gradually increase in size over time, making it a perfect choice for use as a border. Lavender-violet blue flower spikes rise above the rich dark-green clumps of foliage during summer, followed by attractive black berries. Super Blue is slighty larger and more vigorous than it's family member 'Big Blue'.
