Additional Information About Fragaria ananassa 'Lipstick' - Lipstick Ornamental Strawberry

Fragaria Ananassa 'Lipstick' is a moderate growing groundcover plant and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5A through 8B. It matures to an average height of 1 inch to 1 foot and an average width of 1 foot to 2 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. In the spring, summer and fall Lipstick Strawberry Plant produces fuchsia and rose pink flowers. The foliage is dark green in color.

Lipstick Strawberry Plant can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, as a groundcover or in landscape beds or islands and also in cottage gardens.

More About Lipstick Fragaria...

Hardy from one end of the country to the other, Fragaria 'Lipstick' is a spreading ornamental strawberry with big, reddish-rose blooms all season long: from mid-spring all the way to frost!

When planted as a groundcover in garden beds, Lipstick Fragaria reaches about 6 to 8 inches high with a spread of up to 3 feet wide. It's quick growth and attractive deep green leaves make for an excellent groundcover. But the real stars of the show are the flowers, which are large, showy, and continue to pop up all summer long and into fall after a heavy spring display! The rosey blooms are vibrant and fadeproof.

Can you eat the berries? Yes! You can eat the early-summer berries, but as an Alpine variety, Lipstick is different from our supermarket strawberries. Lipstick has a softer texture, smaller size, and is juicy-tart. If you don't like them the birds will!

Lipstick Fragaria will grow best in sun and well-drained soil. In the more southern zones where it will grow some afternoon shade would be appreciated. Sandy, acidic soil is ideal, but any good garden loam will do. Constantly soggy or wet soil is a killer.

Lipstick is just about the showiest thing to happen to groundcover in years, and few plants are easier to grow!
