Additional Information About Chapel Hill Gold Hardy Lantana

Chapel Hill Gold Lantana is a fast growing perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 7A through 11. It matures to an average height of 1 foot to 2 feet and an average width of 3 feet to 4 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the spring, summer and fall Chapel Hill Gold Lantana produces golden yellow flowers. The foliage is medium green and dark green in color. It attracts butterflies and visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat. If you like fragrance, Chapel Hill Gold Lantana has fragrant foliage.

Chapel Hill Gold Lantana can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as a groundcover, in landscape beds or islands, to accentuate entryways, in small groupings or in medians and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, theme gardens, cottage gardens, butterfly gardens or perennial gardens.

More about Chapel Hill Gold Lantana...

Chapel Hill Gold is a Dr. Mike Dirr creation that is a sport from Chapel hill Yellow which was cross between 'Miss Huff' (the most cold hardy of all Lantana) from which it gets its superior cold hardiness, and 'New Gold' Hardy Lantana from whence it gets its bright yellow flowers and low and spreading growth habit of 16 inches tall by 2 to 3 feet wide. It is fast growing and quick to flower so gardeners in colder climates can enjoy it as an annual.

The dense, golden yellow flower heads of Chapel Hill Gold are numerous florets that sit atop leathery, dark green ovate leaves. The plant flowers continuously from spring until the frost!

Culture & Care Tips

IMPORTANT CARE TIP!!! DO NOT PRUNE LANTANA IN THE FALL as this will ensure death of the plant! Wait until new growth begins to emerge in spring to remove dead stems. A mid-summer shearing to remove seedheads is okay.

Lantana is exceptionally easy to grow in well-drained soil and full sun. A little light shade is okay. Constantly soggy soil is a killer.
