Noteworthy Characteristics
An excellent upright boxwood cultivar, grown for both its form and its ability to thrive in a variety of site conditions, Dee Runk forms a skinny pyramid to about 8 feet or so after 15 years and maybe 2 feet wide. Much sturdier than a cultivar called 'Graham Blandy', which is narrower but very flimsey.
Uses
Dee Runk is robust and doesn't need wrapping against the snow. It would function as the predictable foundation planting exclamation point, but a row of them would form a useful screen in a smaller garden where there is room for evergreens to climb but not spread. It also serves nicely as a specimen centerpiece in small garden spaces or in container gardens.
Culture & Care Tips
Very easy to grow in locations that provide sun or partial. It will grow in a most any soil type but especially likes rich, loamy, well-drained but moist soils. If you grow it in a pot use a good potting mix and check soil moisture more frequently. Prune as needed in late winter to maintain density and desired form. If a tight conical form is desired, initial training will be required. Once this form is developed, the plant will only need selective annual prunings.
