More About Doone Valley Thyme...

Doone Valley Thyme is a low-growing, mat-forming plant with variegated yellow and green heavily lemon-scented foliage. It spreads to about 18 inches wide and produces 3 to 4 inch long flower heads full of lavender-pink flowers. Foliage turns green during summer and becomes variegated during the cool season.

Doone Valley Thyme is not a cooking thyme. The Lemon scent does not hold up in cooking as regular Lemon Thyme does. However, both the leaves and the blossoms can be used as brilliantly colored, fragrant garnish.

Doone Valley Thyme is excellent use as a groundcover or border along garden walkways, paths, and garden beds, or around rose beds. It is also a cloroful accent in container gardeners. Tolerates light foot traffic.

Easy to grow, Doone Valley Thyme requires very well-drained average to poor soils and full sun. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. Avoid overwatering! It is helpful to mulch around ground cover thymes to fend off encroaching weeds until the plants can fully shade the ground from any light that might cause weed seeds to sprout. When mulching, do not cover the plants.

Done Valley Thyme is very low maintenance, deer resistant and very drought tolerant. Once established, plants will require little care. Wetting their leaves while watering will reduce their fragrance. Plants can be trimmed or sheared after flowering to reduce height. If left unpruned, the thyme will crawl over the spent flowers, adding height to the mound.
