Noteworthy Characteristics
President Red Hibiscus is prized for its large, orange-red flowers with a glossy rosy red eye. Each petal of the flower is round, ridged and ruffled like crepe paper, and barely overlapping. You can plant it in those far-away spots and it will still shine. Or plant it up close to enjoy the enormous flowers from close up. Glossy, dark green leaves are an extra-added bonus.
Uses
Where hardy outdoors, President Red Tropical Hibiscus is useful as a colorful accent or specimen shrub or small tree to highlight entryways, as a hedge, espalier to cover bare walls such as the spaces between windows, or in containers. Where not winter hardy, it can be used outdoors as an annual in beds or as a container plant that can be overwintered indoors or in a greenhouse when low temperatures drop below 55 degrees.
