Additional Information About Limelight Hydrangea - Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight'

Hydrangea Paniculata 'Limelight' is a fast and moderate growing shrub that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 4A through 8B. It matures to an average height of 6 feet to 8 feet and an average width of 6 feet to 8 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun and grows best when planted in loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the summer and fall Limelight Hydrangea produces charteuse flowers. The foliage is medium green in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat.

Limelight Hydrangea can be useful in the landscape in foundation plantings, as a buffer or screen, as a background, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, for topiary, as a focal point, in landscape beds or islands, to frame the corners of a home or other building or grown flat against a wall and also in theme gardens, cottage gardens, perennial gardens or shade gardens.

More about the Limelight Hydrangea...

Noteworthy Characteristics

As the dog days of August set in and most flowering plants peter out from their long summer performance, one shrub will take center stage in your landscape or garden with a commanding presence simlar to that of the Chinese Snowball Viburnum: ‘Limelight’ Hydrangea. With its spectacular, 8-12 inch size snowcone-shaped flower clusters, Limelight puts on a spectacular show of color in the summer garden with large flowers that emerge a creamy-chartreuse color persisting but fading to deep pink in the fall. Soil pH does not effect its bloom color and it is adaptable to different soil types. As an added bonus, Limelight blooms make great cut flowers for use in both fresh or dried floral arrangements.

Uses

Limelight Hydrangea can be grown as a shrub or small tree and is useful as a specimen, in groupings, as a background, or as a colorful hedge in perennial and shrub borders.

Culture & Care Tips

Limelight can take the heat at our location in mid-Georgia, but is also exceptionally cold hardy, withstanding even the coldest winter temperatures in the North. In the South, it's best to plant Limelight in a location where it will receive some shade in the afternoon. For best blooming give it at least 6 hours of sun a day.

My Limelight Hydrangea came in very good condition and I'm hoping it will survive the heat we have here in Texas. I love the chartreuse color. I corresponded with Spencer by email and he told me to plant it where it will get some afternoon shade so I planted it on the east side of my house.

These Hydrangea’s look great. They arrived without any problems and were healthier than the ones at the local stores. It’s hard to beat the price and convience. I will use GardenerDirect.com in the future for sure!
