Need help choosing the right varieties of Muscadines?

This is the fun part. There are lots of selections of muscadines, each with its own flavor, sugar content, and ripening time. What really determines the type you should choose is how you want to use them. Most are good for snacking. Others are great for making jam, jelly, juice, and wine. So do a little homework, and click on the link below to use the Muscadine Data Sheet to help make your selections. Note: There are two different kinds of muscadines: self-fertile types, which are self-pollinating, and self-sterile (female) types, which must be planted near self-fertile types to produce fruit.

More about Loomis Muscadine...

'Loomis' originated in Meridan, Miss. by N. Loomis. It was later introduced by R. Lane and M. Owens of the University of Georgia. 'Loomis' was selected out of the cross 'Creek' x US 15. 'Loomis' was selected for its high disease resistance and excellent taste. It does not yield the heaviest of crops however makes up for that with it's distinct color and flavor. This is an interesting cultivar in that it has a very distinct taste, that can be quite good although at times it is a little sharp. Also, the berry has a burgundy color, different from the normal black of most muscadines. This would be an interesting addition for the fruit connoisseur. Loomis is a femal that does require a pollinator.
