More About Conger Yellow Tea Olive...

Noteworthy Characteristics

Osmanthus fragrans 'Conger Yellow',  is a new variety of yellow-flowered fragrant Tea Olive! In spring and fall the yellow flowers are held in clusters all over the plant where the leaf bases meet the branches. While individual flowers are small, the clusters are usually large and numerous enough to be quite showy. Like other Tea Olives, Conger Yellow is evergreen but has larger leaves, providing a more lush look than the white or orange flowered cultivars. Tea Olives are some of the most sweetly fragrant shrubs in Southern gardens, and Conger Yellow is no exception to the rule. It's intoxicating lemony sweet scent makes it ideal for planting near windows and outdoor living areas where the delightful fragrance can be readily enjoyed during the cool season. Some say the scent can be compared to peach or orange blossoms or jasmine. Fragrant Tea Olive has an exceptionally long bloom period. In our gardens here in Zone 8 of mid-Georgia they are in flower whenever the temperatures are between about 50 and 70 degrees, which measn at least 2 months or more during the fall and spring, and even sometimes during warm spells in mid-winter.

Uses

A breeze will carry the aroma a good distance, but we suggest planting your Tea Olive near windows and outdoor living areas. This way you can enjoy the fragrance from close up. Tea Olives can be useful as a single specimen shrub or small tree, in groupings, in flowering shrub borders, as a natural hedge, visual screen or wind and noise buffer, to frame corners in home foundation plantings,or in fragrance or cottage gardens

Culture & Care Tips

Conger Yellow Tea Olive is an exceptionally easy plant to grow in most any average well-drained soil. It prefers full sun but will tolerate a little shade. Once established it is quite drought tolerant. It has very few if any insect or disease problems and deer don't touch it!
