Additional Information About Evergreen Giant Liriope

Liriope Muscari 'Evergreen Giant' is a moderate growing groundcover plant, ornamental grass and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 10B. It matures to an average height of 1 foot to 2 feet and an average width of 1 foot to 2 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade, morning shade with afternoon sun or filtered sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam, clay or silt soil that is well drained or moderately drained. In the summer Evergreen Giant Liriope produces violet and lavender flowers. The foliage is dark green in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat.

Evergreen Giant Liriope can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in foundation plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, under a shade tree, as a groundcover, in hanging baskets or in landscape beds or islands and also in theme gardens, perennial gardens or shade gardens.

More About Evergreen Giant Liriope...

True to its name, Evergreen Giant is a giant sized Liriope muscari that is probably 3 to 4 times the size of Big Blue Liriope. This large, clumping grass-like perennial makes an attractive, dark green, arching mound that is accented with spikes of lilac purple blooms during summer months. The evergreen foliage is composed of stiff-textured leaf blades about 3/8 to 1/2 inches wide and 12 to18 inches or so in length.

Plant liriope to create a fine-textured gentle ground cover which will sustain itself for many years. Large areas planted in liriope lend a soothing effect to any landscape. Evergreen Giant is perfect for planting under the canopies of large trees. Though Evergreen Giant does not actually spread by underground stems, an individual plant can reach 24 inches in width after several years by suckering at the base and will quickly cover an open area when planted 18 inches apart. In addition to its use as a small or large space groundcover, it can also be used as an edging along walks or around patios and is great for use as a centerpiece or stand alone in container gardens.

Evergreen Giant Lirope is exceptionally easy to grow in a variety of soil types that are well-drained and part shade to full shade. Morning sun with afternoon shade is fine. Consistently soggy or wet soils can cause problems with the roots.
