More About Ice Dance Sedge Grass...

Carex “Ice Dance” Sedge is one of a very few variegated  ornamental grasses that will grow in shade. It is prolific and breeds like a bunny rabbit. Unlike Carex 'Variegata', 'Ice Dances' spreads instead of forming a clump. Plant it this spring and, by next year, you’ll have plugs to plant elsewhere in the garden or to share with your friends. The attractive, slender, shiny dark green leaf blades are outlined in white and form neat arching clumps in the garden, eventually filling in to form a solid mass.

The 1/2" wide dark green leaves with clear white borders are wonderful to brighten the woodland or shade garden. The moderately spreading habit makes 'Ice Dance' great for covering the woodland floor. The rate of spread is just perfect...not fast enough to become a problem, but not slow enough to try your patience... a great addition!

The key to success with Ice Dance Sedge is shade. Some morning sun is okay but afternoon shade is a must to prevent scalding of the foliage. In our trial gardens we have it planted underneath a shade tree near one of our garden ponds.

Ice Dance Sedge Grass is easy to grow and maintain. It is adaptable to a wide range of soils and prefers partial shade to shade, morning sun with afternoon shade being perfect. It spreads slowly by rhizomes and is quite drought tolerant once established. If desired, the foliage can be cut back to the ground in early spring before new growth occurs.

Ice Dance Sedge is great for use in containers, or as a slowly spreading groundcover in the shade and rock garden.
