Noteworthy Characteristics

The Grancy Greybeard, also known as the "Fringe Tree," is an eyecatching North American native and a wonderful, hardy and long-lived addition to any landscape. When in flower, this is one of the most beautiful trees you'll ever set your eyes upon. In late spring, it's showy fringe-like blooms cascade downward like the white beard of a wise old man, inspiring the name Grancy Greybeard. The flowers also add a lovely, potent, sweet perfume fragrance to the air about when the dogwoods are beginning to fade.  It is attractive to a variety of beneficial insects while in bloom, and to birds and small mammals when fruiting. It is a slow to moderate grower reaching maybe 20 feet in height with an equal width over the years.

Uses

Grown for it's ornamental value, Grancy Greybeard is most often used as a free standing specimen in the landscape.

Culture

Hardy in USDA Zones 6-10, the Grancy Greybeard is adaptable to a variety of light and soil conditions, from full sun to filtered shade, doing very well under large trees. It prefers a moist, well-drained soil however will tolerate somewahte dry soils and drought when established.

The Fringe Trees came in quickly. They were in good shape through no fault of the carrier! Thank goodness they were well packed! In fact, one of the trees had an empty branch and it has begun to spread out! I know I am going to enjoy them!!

Reply from Gardener Direct:

We're very happy to hear your Grancy Greybeard trees arrived safely and are doing well. We know that carriers will sometimes handle packages a little less than gently so we take very much care in securing the plants in the box. That being said, we do have to give a thumbs up to FedEx who we have had very little if any problems with.

I tried the bare root method and got mixed results with the same amount of work. These plants are not only thriving, they are already blooming! Packaging was excellent for, what has to be, a challenge to ship. Thanks, Gardner Direct.

We love the plant, it came in excellent condition. It has just finished blooming and was beautiful. I'm sure as it gets larger it will be spectacular.
