Microphylla Japonica 'Gregem' PP21159' is a moderate growing shrub that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 2 feet to 3 feet and an average width of 2 feet to 3 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun, morning sun with afternoon shade or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in loam or clay soil that is well drained or moderately drained. The foliage is medium green and dark green in color. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, mildew and heat.

Baby Gem Boxwood can be useful in the landscape in foundation plantings, in containers or planters, as a background, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, in landscape beds or islands, to accentuate entryways, in small groupings, as a hedge or in medians and also in theme gardens or cottage gardens.

Use in groupings, low shrub borders, natural hedge, clipped formal hedge, home foundation plantings, container gardens, Asian theme gardens, cottage gardens, formal landscapes, English gardens, and just about anywhere that get full or half sun.

Culture & Care Tips

Prefers well drained soil. Does not require pruning, however, with regular pruning can be maintained as a beautiful low hedge. Water as needed until established. Once established the Baby gem Boxwood is very drought tolerant. For optimum performance apply a balanced slow release fertilizer in spring.

Planted these as a boarder and they are doing very well so far. I've had boxwoods before but they did not make it. Hoping these will be a different story they arrived very green and looking healthy trying to keep them that way.
