More about Maui Red Ixora...Noteworthy Characteristics
Ixora Maui Red is a dwarf, evergreen shrub that loves it hot and humid. It is an attractive, shrubby, sprawling plant that produces abundant clusters of tubular, bright orange flowers against bronze to green shades of lustrous foliage. Plants will tolerate full sun but do much better with some shade in the afternoon. Maybe that's why one of the common names it goes by is "Flame of the Woods"?
Uses
Where hardy outdoors, Red Maui Ixoras heavy branching and compact habit make it an ideal choice for hedges, borders, and foundation plantings in partially shaded locations, and is also lovely in a pot as a houseplant. Where not winter hardy, it can be grown as a houseplant or outdoors as an annual in beds or as a container plant that can be overwintered indoors or in a greenhouse when low temperatures drop below 55 degrees.
