Juniperus Chinensis 'Torulosa' is a fast and moderate growing shrub, tree and cone bearing plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 4A through 9B. It matures to an average height of 12 feet to 15 feet and an average width of 6 feet to 8 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun or morning shade with afternoon sun and grows best when planted in sand, loam or clay soil that is well drained. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases and heat. If you like fragrance, Juniperus Chinensis 'Torulosa' has fragrant foliage.
Hollywood Juniper can be useful in the landscape along woodland borders, in foundation plantings, as a buffer or screen, as a background, in shrub borders, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as an accent, for topiary, as a focal point or in landscape beds or islands and also in rock or xeriscape gardens or theme gardens.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Hollywood Juniper is an interesting coniferous evergreen shrub that grows in an upright twisted fashion; you'll never find two of these plants that look the same. The twisted branching makes for an excellent specimen in landscape beds and islands. Also useful in sunny foundation plantings as espalier (against an open wall), as topiary, as a natural screen, or on the corners to frame in homes or other structures.
Uses
Hollywood juniper is great for use as a specimen, in rows to create a screen, as espalier flat against a wall, as pom pom topiary, or Bonsai. Nice in Asian theme gardens and rock gardens.
Culture & Care Tips
Plant Hollywood Juniper in locations that povide well-drained soils and full sun. Exceptionally drought tolerant and low maintenance, requiring no pruning. That being said, you can prune it to whatever shape you desire. It is perfect for pom-pom and other forms of topiary. Excellent for Bonsai.
