Additional Information About Albostriata Variegated Bamboo (Sam Bamboo)

Description

Also known as "Sam Bamboo," Albostriata is an extremely attractive, variegated bamboo excellent for use as a groundcover, maintaining a fresh appearance throughout the year. The shiny, creamy yellow leaves are lined with dark green and trun more yellow in summer. It holds its color well even through winter. We recommend a shearing or mowing in late winter to encourage fresh new variegated growth.

Albostriata is a running bamboo, which means it spreads, so leave plenty of room for it to grow. We use it as a large area groundcover. If desired or needed, root pruning, a Bamboo Root Barrier or growing plants in above- or below-ground containers are methods to control spread.

Gardener Direct also carries Bamboo fertilizer and planting soil containing Biochar, a highly porous material that allows for long term water and nutrient holding capabilities.
