Additional Information About Platinum Blonde English Lavender

Lavandula Angustifolia 'Platinum Blonde' is a moderate growing herb and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 5A through 8B. It matures to an average height of 1 foot to 2 feet and an average width of 1 foot to 2 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun and grows best when planted in sand or loam soil that is well drained. In the summer Platinum Blonde English Lavender produces blue and lavender flowers. The foliage is yellow, white and medium green in color. It attracts butterflies, wildlife and visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases, mildew and heat. If you like fragrance, Lavandula Angustifolia 'Platinum Blonde' has fragrant foliage.

Platinum Blonde English Lavender can be useful in the landscape in mass plantings, in containers or planters, as a border or edger, around decks, swimming pools, and other outdoor living areas, as a groundcover, in landscape beds or islands or in small groupings and also in rock or xeriscape gardens, cottage gardens, butterfly gardens, herb gardens or perennial gardens.

Noteworthy Characteristics

'Platinum Blonde' is an award-winning English lavender with amazing creamy-gold edged silver-grey foliage that glows in the garden, hence the name. Dense spikes of fragrant blue flowers rise above the foliage on thin stems during summer.  Plantinum Blonde loves the heat and grows nicely in a mounding compact habit, offering disease resistance.

Growing Information

Grow in average, dry to medium, well-drained, alkaline soil in full sun. Constantly soggy soil is a killer. Prefers a light, sandy soil with somewhat low fertility. Remove faded flowers to promote continued bloom. Prune to shape in spring after new leaves appear. Prune back to 8” in spring every 3 years to control plant size and to promote robust, new growth. In high-humidity areas consider using rock instead of organic mulch.

Uses

In the garden, Platinum Blonde English Lavender works well as a specimen or in groupings in borders, butterfly gardens, and is also ideal in sunny container gardens. The foliage and flowers of lavender can be used in perfumes and potpourri, so it is ideal for cutting and herb gardens. Fresh flowers can be crystalized and used in candies and cakes, dried flowers are used in potpourris and satchets, oils are used in creams and perfumes. And these are only some of the more common uses.
