Additional Information About Ogon Golden Japanese Stonecrop

Sedum Makinoi 'Ogon' is a moderate growing groundcover plant and perennial plant that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6A through 9B. It prefers growing in a location that provides full sun or morning sun with afternoon shade and grows best when planted in sand, loam or silt soil that is well drained. It attracts visual attention and is resistant to deer, drought, insects, diseases and foot traffic.

Ogon Sedum can be useful in the landscape in containers or planters, as a border or edger, as a groundcover or between stepping stones and pavers and also in rock or xeriscape gardens or theme gardens.

More About Ogon Sedum...

One of our 'Toe Tickler' selections, ‘Ogon’ is a tiny-leaved spreading ground cover sedum that is noted for its bright gold foliage. It typically forms a dense mat growing to only 2 inches high and creeping to 12 inches wide or more. Individual rounded leaves are only 1/4” wide. Best golden leaf color usually occurs with some part afternoon shade. The tiny, star-like, yellow-green flowers appear in summer.

Ogon Sedum is very easy to grow in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Unlike most sedums, ‘Ogon’ seems to prefer some afternoon shade in hot summer climates of the South. It is drought and heat tolerant once established. We've seen no serious insect or disease problems however constantly soggy soil can be a killer.

Ogon Sedum makes for an excellent ground cover in small areas and is also useful to fill between flagstone paths, along rock walls or to spill over container edges.
