More about Red Dragon Contorted Filbert....

Noteworthy Characteristics

With it's red leaves and contorted twisted branches Red Dragon Contorted Filbert is a must have focal point specimen for the gardener who appreciates unique plant selections. Burgundy red catkin flowers appear in late winter on the twisted and contorted branches giving a most unusual and interesting distinct appearance. The new branch growth is dark red and in late summer the nut husks are dark red. Wow! This tree is truly a one of a kind. As the leaves disappear for the winter season the twisted branches become the center of attention and add only more to the interest factor. Red Dragon Contorted Filbert has complete resistence to eastern filbert blight.

Uses

Our opinion is that Red Dragon Contorted Filbert is best used as a single or multi trunk specimen. It's best to plant it in a location where it will be viewed often such as in the front yard, at the end of a driveway, near the front door, at the mailbox, next to a sitting area, or as a center feature in an island. Red Dragon can also be used in container gardens, or to frame structures.

Culture

Red Dragon Contorted Filbert prefers well to moderately drained soil and at least a half day of direct sun. Very little maintenance is required other than a little snip here or there if so desired. Easy to grow!
