Upright Japanese Yew - Podocarpus
Podocarpus macrophyllus

The Upright Japanese Yew is an upright growing, oval-shaped shrub with handsome, dark green foliage that grows to about 10' tall or so. Responds very well to shearing so can be trimmed into a formal column shape. The unique, needle-like foliage provides a nice contrast and texture in the landscape. Prefers well-drained soil and full sun or part shade. Does not like wet feet.

 Useful in foundation plantings to provide height on the corners or to fill a void on an open wall. When trimmed into a tight column it's perfect for narrow spaces. Useful in landscape beds and islands as a background, formal or natural hedge, or stand-alone specimen.
