Description Instructions/Care

Catawba Crape Myrtle
Lagerstroemia indica 'Catawba'

For up to 100 days during summer, Catawba Crape Myrtle produces an abundance of large, long-lasting, purple colored flower clusters. It is one of the best purple flowering trees available.
It is one of the mid-size crape myrtle trees with excellent form and shape; topping out at 10-12 feet in height with a rounded dome canopy to 10 feet in width.

The green foliage has a bronzy cast in spring, bright green leaves in summer, turning orange-red in fall.

Crape Myrtle is not picky about soil type provided the soil is well-drained. Full sun is preferred and results in heavier flower production. Light shade is tolerated but with diminished blooming. Catawba is a Fauriei Hybrid that is exceptionally resistant to powdery mildew.

Catawba can be used as a stand alone specimen, in groupings, or in rows in landscape beds, medians, or foundation plantings. Can also be useful for espalier against are tall, open wall.
