Description

Sonset Hardy Lantana
Lantana camara 'Sonset'

If you're looking for smaller growing alternative to Miss Huff Lantana, that is just as hardy, Sonset Lantana is your choice. This plant grows in a mound to about 3 to 4 feet in height with an equal spread. It is the first lantana to emerge from dormancy of all  in our trial gardens, sometimes as early as March. The blooms are very similar in color to those of Miss Huff, but a little darker.

What's really special about Sonset is that just about every time you turn around to look a this lantana it's flowers have changed colors. The bicolor flowers start out in the morning as a lighter yellow and orange, then turn to red and yellow during the afternoon. By evening, the flowers have turned to a deep rose and fuchsia color.

As with all other lantana, this one is a butterfly magnet. Hummingbirds love it too...more so than any other lantana in our gardens.

Plant Sonset Lantana anywhere in the sunny landscape where the soil is well-drained. Because of its smaller size it is well suited for containers. Especially nice near outdoor sitting areas where you can watch from up close as the butterlies and hummingbirds feed from the flowers.

Prune one time a year when new growth begins to emerge in spring. Remove all dead wood. Beware, fall pruning almost ensures death of the plant. Consistently wet soil can cause problems with the roots.

Lantanas April 26, 2012
Reviewer: David Harris from Raleigh, NC United States
In general, all was fine.

one small thing - one of my plants arrived with the dirt all dumped out - and the plant was just exposed there with no dirt or pot around it.   Hopefully, it will be fine after I planted it.

Sonset Lantana - 1 gallon April 10, 2012
Reviewer: Joan Stripling from Everman, TX United States
The items ordered were received in a
timely manner- however they had a
rough trip.. Obvious the carrier offered no
special handling for this shipment.. Box was
all torn up and re-taping had been attempted. Some plants had some breakage and dirt spilled from containers...
However,, I believe they will survive - but,, no thanks to the carrier .. And,, doing business with your company was a pleasure.. Thank you again !! Wish you were
closer !! The rating is for your company
and your effort to assist what I was after..
Not the carrier...
